Building Engineer - Transitional Shelter

Location; Padang City, with frequent travel to project areas within West Sumatra province.

Duration; Initially 3 months from 11th November, with Possibility of extension if Muslim Aid construction activities extend beyond initial time frame.

Scope: The Building Engineer is the key technical role in Muslim Aid's Program of provision of Transitional Shelter (t-shelter) for survivors of the 30th September earthquake. He/She will generate and adapt appropriate design; consult with communities to ensure suitability; articulate procurement requirements and ensure quality control of same, and oversight construction work in the field. The posistion requires an experienced Engineer who is both technically able, and has a good understanding of and commitment to community process.

Skills and qualification required:
- Minimum Bachelor's degree in Architecture/Construction engineering
- At least three years' experience in design and cunstruction basic housing.
- Able to operate CAD software
- Proven ability in budgeting, procurement and quality control
- Experience of, and commitment to, working in community-led and - owned housing and shelter project.
- Previous experience working specifically with bamboo and/or coconut in construction an advantage.
- Competence in written and spoken English an advantage.
