WEB EDITOR
ACT Alliance, one of the largest faith-based humanitarian and development networks in the world, is looking for a talented and dynamic Web Editor to manage, develop and implement all aspects of ACT Alliance’s digital communication on its main website at www.actalliance.org and its online media library.
This exciting new position requires you to plan, commission, produce, edit, upload and publicise written, visual and audio-visual material on humanitarian emergencies, development and advocacy work, along with other issues affecting ACT Alliance’s members.
Main tasks:
• To manage the ACT Alliance website www.actalliance.org on a day-to-day basis and develop the site’s journalistic and visual strengths and relevance as a key expression of ACT’s core purpose: to work alongside poor, marginalised and crisis-affected people for justice and an end to poverty.
• To coordinate and help improve ACT’s communications response to emergencies so that the alliance is generating the most original, timely and high-quality content possible.
• To manage the online ACT media library and social media outlets to increase positive exposure of ACT Alliance’s work wordwide.
• To raise the positive profile of ACT Alliance through press and publicity work.
• To develop and maintain strong and productive working relationships with the network of ACT Alliance communicators based in member organisations around the world.
Knowledge and skills:
• Excellent editorial and journalistic skills in English, including strong story writing, editing and press release/key message-writing skills gained in a mainstream newsroom or online news environment, and a sound understanding of writing for the web and engaging online audiences.
• Excellent knowledge of world affairs and of the global media scene, including the major international media outlets (print, broadcast and online), syndicates, wire organisations, websites and news blogs.
• Superb team skills, delegation skills and the ability to spark the enthusiasm and build the trust of colleagues and stakeholders outside the team.
• A track record of building and maintaining strong relationships with the media.
• Demonstrated competency in the field of new media and internet technologies and knowledge of a range of applications and software including social media platforms, content management systems and image-editing software.
• An ability to work in a flexible, collaborative and collegial way within a multicultural environment.
• An interest in photography and digital trends.
• A high degree of self-motivation, an ability to manage own work and time within the context of multiple responsibilities, and a demonstrated capacity to work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Commitment to ACT Alliance’s values and vision.
Qualifications:
Graduate qualification or equivalent in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, English Language and Literature or a related field.
Experience:
• A minimum of five years’ journalistic or editorial experience in a high-pressure newsroom or fast-turnover news website.
• Experience of day-to-day management of a web presence for a global membership-based organisation.
• Experience of team-work under pressure and to tight deadlines.
• Substantial knowledge of international current affairs and development issues.
• Professional familiarity with humanitarian work, development work and related advocacy.
