The Build Project The Build Project is a non-profit organisation run entirely by volunteers. We work with young people who have been forced to leave Burma and now live in Thailand as displaced people who are denied basic rights. These young people are full of ideas for smart solutions which will help them and their communities. But they need outside help to make their vision a reality.

Volunteer with young people from Burma: in-country manager, teachers, youth workers, administrators

Seeking people with relevant experience to volunteer at the Institute of Academic and Practical Studies (IAPS), the Build Project's institute in Mae Sot, Thailand for students aged 17-23, based in Mae Sot, Thailand. IAPS provides a program of training, delivered in English, in a range of subjects, including Thai, English, computer skills, office administration, social sciences and community development.

We are currently recruiting volunteers for the following roles:

# IAPS manager
# Teachers: English as a Second Language
# Teachers: Thai as a Second Language
# Teachers / Trainers: Computer Studies or Information Technology
# Live-in Youth workers
# IAPS administrator

These roles offer a unique opportunity to work at the ground level with a grass roots organisation and make a positive difference in a marginalised and disadvantaged community. Mae Sot is a diverse and colourful town in Northern Thailand, near the Burmese border; it is a base for many international NGOs working with refugees and migrants from Burma.

Applicants for the IAPS Manager role are required to commit to a minimum of 6 months with the Build Project.
For other roles, we expect a minimum commitment of 8 weeks.

Teachers and youth workers will be expected to start and finish their placement on dates corresponding to the IAPS teaching schedule:

29 Dec - 20 Feb 2010
14 Feb - 10 Apr 2011
18 Apr -12 Jun 2011
6 Jun - 30 Jul 2011

Volunteers are very welcome to work at IAPS for two or more consecutive terms.
